Architectural Digest shows
Safavieh's presence in a Frank Lloyd Wright building |
 |
The June 2003 issue of Architectural Digest has an article on the Inn at Price Tower, a new boutique
hotel in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The building was originally conceived by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1956
as headquarters for the H.C. Price Company, and it is the only skyscraper that the famous architect
ever designed.
Safavieh was commissioned to create rugs for the entire hotel.

Safavieh Expands Marketing Efforts
Despite
the current difficult retail climate, Safavieh is expanding its
marketing effort to offer more options for its resellers. This
fall Safavieh is offering numerous co-op advertising and direct
mail programs to its dealers.
Safavieh is offering co-op advertising in Elle Décor, Metropolitan
Home, Architectural Digest and Town & Country for almost every
month until January.
"This is the most comprehensive co-op advertising push we
have ever done" says Arash Yaraghi, VP Safavieh. "We
are going to offer some new and stronger initiatives with co-op
direct mail too" says Safavieh Marketing Director, Michael
Jobst. We will be mailing a new full color co-op rug catalog in
September that is available to all our resellers.
"We believe when other businesses are down, that is the perfect
time for us to strengthen our brand and customers", says
Arash Yaraghi.
In
the past year Safavieh has made significant moves in marketing
in order to push the Safavieh brand, with a new web site, a dramatically
increased direct mail effort and a first ever national co-op Architectural
Digest advertising effort.
"We have seen a very positive response from our resellers"
says Yaraghi. The resellers are always looking to increase awareness
of their stores and show the value of Safavieh products they carry.
"Having a customer see a rug in Architectural Digest and
then in our showrooms says a lot about our products", says
Yaraghi.
In the next year you will see even more co-op marketing from Safavieh
with online advertising and web sites along with increased national
advertising.

Safavieh Redesigns Their Web Site
Functionality
is the key word to be used with Safavieh's new web site: Savavieh.com.
It is a site that now works easily both for the customers and
for the company. Safavieh customers have an easily accessible
online catalog and a new Dealers Only section. There is no need
to wait for a disc with images to arrive the next day, it can
be found immediately on their web site.
"We
are entering a whole new era of customer fulfillment," said
Arash Yaraghi. "The new web site gives us the ability to
get instant feedback from our customers and react much faster
than ever before."
In
the Dealers Only section, the Safavieh dealers can sign up for
an account where they receive a "log-on" and password.
Once they are logged in, they can view pricing and place orders
directly on the web site. Time is immediately saved for all. No
more need to wait for the U.S. Postal service.
The
site redesign was a long process of trial and error. Safavieh's
head Online Developer and Web Master Len Danovich sought out feedback
from clients and industry experts to develop a simple but elegant
design that went along with the Safavieh look and feel.
"When
our dealers come to our site, we don't want them to be confused
or intimidated. They
are there for a specific purpose and www.safavieh.com is the tool
to achieve that purpose," added Arash Yaraghi.

Vendor's Opinions Split on Javits Center Rug Pavilion
By Jennifer White
Arash
Yaraghi, vice president of Safavieh, an importer and retailer
in New York, said the pavilion could help area rug importers.
He pointed out that this show is unusual because importers meet
with retailers who are interested in variety of textile products,
not just rugs.
"Hopefully,
it will lead to a New York focus for the rug industry. Why not?
New York is the capital of rug importers, " Yaraghi said.

Industry outsider Walter Nicholas takes a colorful approach
to designing rugs.
Walter
Nicholas’ approach to color is just as bold as Safavieh’s decision
to produce a collection by someone who has never designed rugs
before.
Nicholas,
who has a degree in industrial design from Massachusetts Institute
of Technology and first became acquainted with rugs as a collector,
has created rugs with saturated blocks of color, a bright but
sophisticated look that will appeal even to those who prefer
to dress in all black. His collections debuted at Surfaces here.
"He’s
an outsider; he creates totally original designs; his colors
are vibrant and fresh," said Arash Yaraghi, vice president
and co-owner of Safavieh. "The average consumer won’t want
them; they’re aimed at those in cities and for those with a
design sense, he said. The collection is geared toward higher-end
specialty and department stores.
Nicholas’
LaCarta collection are Sumak flatweaves, which are also reversible
and made of 100 percent wool. A 6-by-9' retails for about $800.
His rugs also include a hand knotted and a cotton line.
Wearing
a cerise-colored shirt and multicolored tie (red, orange, green,
brown) Nicholas showed trade show attendees his rugs. "I
have always been strong with color," he said.

rug is quite different of that of a traditionalist. His designs
are clean and simple. His colors are fresh and bright, introducing
a totally new concept to a hand made rug. SAFAVIEH debuted the
Walter Nicholas by SAFAVIEH collection at the Atlanta show and
Walter Nicholas was on hand to meet with customers to exchange
